Match report:

A match dominated by a pitch which certainly helped the bowlers and which saw limited batting application, loose bowling and average fielding.  Very few batsmen got in and those that did struggled to score runs at a pace necessary to ensure victory for their teams.  The only exception was Danny McKenna and even he would agree that he had some lucky escapes.

North started well (albeit slowly) and their two openers Ashdown and Atkinson got them to 41 without the loss of a wicket.  From that point on wickets fell throughout the afternoon and North were completely undone by the five wickets which fell in the 80s with the result that their final score of 113 should never have been enough to make it a competitive game.  Loose bowling by South contributed 41 extras to the score highlighting a poor performance overall in the field.

However, the South did manage to turn it into a highly competitive and tense game due to some very tight opening bowling by the North (Witheridge and Davies in the opening spells being the best bowlers on display throughout the afternoon) and some poor batting with the result that South were soon five wickets down for seven runs.  Taylor and Beasant applied themselves diligently and got South up to 59 when they both went in consecutive overs.  McKenna, with help from Burnett and Hodgson then saw South home, but all in all North were unlucky to lose and South were lucky to win; it could very easily have been the other way round.
